Welcome to our Preschool Class Page!

We are delighted to welcome you and your child to our school community. Starting preschool is an exciting step as children begin to explore the world more independently, build new relationships and develop a love of learning.
Please visit our class page regularly, as we will keep it updated with news, reminders and some of the lovely learning and experiences happening in preschool.
We are looking forward to a year full of learning, laughter, play and new adventures together!

Learning in Preschool……
Throughout the year, we will enjoy lots of wonderful stories, songs and nursery rhymes alongside opportunities to create, investigate, build, imagine, move and explore.
While we have areas of learning that we would like the children to experience and develop, we also respond to the things that capture their interest. This means that our learning can take us in lots of exciting and unexpected directions!

Our Sessions……
Our preschool hours are:
Morning: 9am – 12pm
Afternoon: 12pm – 3pm
Full Day: 9am – 3pm
Extended Day: until 3:30pm

Every day in preschool is full of opportunities to play, explore and learn.

How to Support Your Child at Home…….

Sharing Stories:

Sharing books together is a wonderful way to support your child’s communication, language and early literacy skills. Talk about the pictures, wonder what might happen next and encourage your child to join in with familiar words and phrases.
Stories, songs and nursery rhymes are all brilliant ways to develop your child’s vocabulary and confidence with language.

Talking Together:
Lots of learning in preschool happens through conversation!
Encourage your child to talk about their day, the things they have noticed and what they have been playing with. You could ask questions such as:
“What did you enjoy today?”
“Who did you play with?”
“Can you tell me about what you made?”
Giving children plenty of time to think and respond helps them to develop their confidence and communication skills.

Developing Independence:
In preschool, we encourage children to become increasingly independent. You can support this at home by encouraging your child to practise:
Putting on and taking off their own coat
Using the toilet and washing their hands independently
Putting on their own shoes
Tidying away their toys
Recognising their own name and belongings
Using a knife, fork and spoon
Making simple choices for themselves
Please don’t worry if your child cannot do all of these things yet — we will practise them together!

Sharing Our Learning:
We use ClassDojo to share photographs and updates about some of the exciting things we have been doing in preschool. We will also share our Story of the Week and Rhyme of the Week, so that you can enjoy them together at home too. We love hearing about what our children have been getting up to outside of preschool!
Families are welcome to share photographs of adventures, celebrations, achievements or special moments from home through ClassDojo. These give children a wonderful opportunity to share their experiences and talk about the things that are important to them with their friends and adults in preschool.

Things to Remember:
Please make sure that everything your child brings into preschool is clearly labelled with their name, including coats, jumpers, bags and water bottles. Please bring a named bottle of water each day. We ask that bottles contain water only, rather than juice or flavoured water.

Please ensure that your child has a bag containing a full change of clothes, including underwear and socks, which can remain in preschool. Our play and exploration can sometimes get a little messy or wet!

Children should come to preschool in comfortable clothes and shoes that allow them to run, climb, paint, dig, explore and get messy.

Please let us know if somebody different will be collecting your child.

Working Together:
Parents and carers know their children best, and working closely with families is an important part of helping children to feel happy, safe and confident at preschool. If you have any questions, worries or information that you think we should know, please speak to a member of the preschool team. We are always happy to help. We also love hearing about your child’s achievements and experiences outside of preschool, however big or small!
